Macintosh OS X has speech functions built into the operating system, found in the Speech pane of System Preferences. Converting text to speech is very full-featured, but the built-in speech recognition system is much more limited. How can the answer be improved? By Bob LeVitus. One way your Mac can speak to you in Mac OS X Lion is using Text to Speech, which converts on-screen text to spoken words. If you’ve used Text to Speech in earlier versions of Mac OS X, you’ll find that it’s pretty much unchanged. I wonder if there is an easy way to record the audio while a text is been read by my Mac using the built-in text-to-speech menu item of the text editor (TextEdit) of Mac OS X? Try to execute the following in a terminal:
Speech To Text For Microsoft Word
That will save the spoken text 'Hello. I'm a Mac' to ~/Desktop/say.aiff. See the manpage of say (execute
man say
in a terminal) for more information and other file formats. You can also easily convert the .aiff-File to an mp3 with iTunes or a console based encoder like lame.lajuettelajuette
Honestly, I know it's not explicitly what you're asking for, but this is much faster and better. Select everything in the doc,
right click > services > add to itunes as a spoken track
. Then, Your file gets processed directly instead as an audio file. No terminal needed. Youtube video explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGEs77682s0Hit Start, type “index,” and then click the “Indexing Options” result. In the “Indexing Options” window, click the “Advanced” button. Search for text in files. The screens might look a little different, but it’s the same basic process on all versions. In the “Advanced Options” window, switch to the “File Types” tab.
If you really want your computer to be reading to you while you're recording, you can do a quicktime audio recording using soundflower. SoundFlower is an app that sends your computers internal sounds to the recording.

How to combine two columns in excel. Jan 11, 2013 I am trying to use Text-to-Column function in Excel for Mac 2011 to split a column of times into separate columns. For instance, I need 13:45:00 to be separated into hour, minute, and second columns. However, when I try this, 13 becomes 1. Click Next and then choose the format for your new columns. If you don't want the default format, choose a format such as Text, then click the second column of data in the Data preview window, and click the same format again. Repeat this for all of the columns in the preview window. If your data is in an Excel table, the Transpose feature won’t be available. You can convert the table to a range first by using the Convert to Range button on the Table tab, or you can use the TRANSPOSE function to rotate the rows and columns. Text to Columns in Excel 2016/365 for Mac 15.26 -- Broken Again! Hi, there were similar posts about this issue in 2015; it seems it was fixed in some releases and perhaps was re-introduced in 15.24, and persists in 15.26. On the Data tab, in the Data Tools group, click Text to Columns. The following dialog box appears. Choose Delimited and click Next. Clear all the check boxes under Delimiters except for the Comma and Space check box. Click Finish. Note: This example has commas and spaces as delimiters. You may have other delimiters in your data.
